hello.
I was browsing the Mobygames forums when I noticed someone had added a topic for Warp Power's Alchemist, which linked to this old page:
theodor.lauppert.ws/games/alchmist.htm
In particular, they were highlighting the alternative name of "Animos" as being worth including as an alternate title. I was intrigued by how little I knew (and could quickly find out) about the game, and so I ended up spending a lot of my weekend chasing various leads through Google to find out more about Warp Power, Arc Media and Alchemist in particular.
I could go ahead and post what little information I have if it's of any interest, although I'm not quite finished with the resources I've gathered so far - in particular, the way that the various Arc Media pages are stored on the Internet Archive is too frustrating for me right now, and I haven't boiled down Warp Power's 1998 homepage into actual details. I'm also not satisfied with some other mysteries, like how the name "Pinenut Publishing" became associated with the game on some sites, or whether Bandai actually released a Playstation port of Alchemist in Japan (I'm fairly confident they released a PC version, but those are much more poorly documented than releases for dedicated systems). That's all beside the point at the moment.
Right now I'd like to find out a bit more about two claims made on the old Theodor Lauppert's Game Gallery page:
-Firstly, I'm looking for more concrete details on the release of "Animos" as a 1997 DOS game. I'm certainly not doubting it, but while the 1999 English PC release can basically be confirmed based on the data that is out there (and the 2000 scene release by CLASS that I unexpected stumbled across), I haven't found solid data on any other releases yet, and the 1997 DOS version would be the most helpful one to know about (if for no other reason than to have both ends of the timeline of releases).
-Secondly, the final line: "There was a sequel of sorts in 2000, unlike the original, you may find some info about it here and there." I may be misunderstanding something here, but I don't believe I've come across any sign of a sequel, and not enough information is provided for me to relate that claim to anything else I've found. I believe there might be some communication error here, so I'd like to find out if any additional facts about the sequel can be remembered.
I appreciate any clarification that can be passed on.
